Acoustic emission sensors are piezoelectric transducers that detect high-frequency elastic waves generated by active damage or dynamic processes in materials and structures, such as crack growth, leakage, friction, wear, deformation, impact, and corrosion-related activity. The sensor converts these mechanical waves into electrical signals, which are then amplified, filtered, and processed by an acoustic emission acquisition system for testing, diagnosis, and monitoring.
